Description
Built at the beginning of the 20th century in 1910 as a two floor rental building for the famous tailor Salamon Sonnenberg. Architects: Isidor Strassburger and Lajos Gombos. The style is Hungarian Art Nouveau (Secession). It is a double building erected on two streets front (the other is the Mátyás Corvin Street). On the Đure Đakovića street facade, the one leafe wooden entrance door with transom light and Art Nouveau shape frame decoration is located at the far left side of the ground floor. The building has an accented central batter with a baroque-shape gable. The ornaments are rigid and straight-lined, arranged in geometric composition. They are elements made of glazed Zsolnay ceramics with Hungarian folk motifs. The socle is made of rose marble from Siklós. The other street facade is much less significant designed under the influence of Vienna Secession, but with Hungarian folk motifs. In a period of time, Alexander Lifka, a famous cinematograph lived in the building, today it gives place to the Hungarian Consulate General. The building is a listed one in the city centre under particular protection from the aspect of its local historic significance.
