Description
The primary plans of the mansion were ready in 1903, but the city’s beautification committee did not accept them for the reason of that a building with a ground floor would not fit in with the elite environs. Based on the amended plans, a one-floor building was built up in 1904. Raichl lived in this house until 1908, when the palace was put up to auction. The building was built as the home of Ferenc Raichl J., with an architect’s office on the ground floor. In 1948 the Subotica City Museum opened its first exhibition in it. Since 1970, it has been the home of the city’s Fine Arts Gallery.The familly house was built in Hungarian version of the Art Nouveau. The centre of the building is dominated by a huge vaulted alcove which is adorned with Kalotaszeg motifs set in Zsolnay ceramic. At the lower part, the massive, wavy line of the balustrade was made from the same material, this holds the masterly crafted iron gate decorated with heart shaped motifs. The entire building is rich in details, massive pair of the Zsolnay pillars, wrought iron railings beautified with floral motifs, the Murano glass mosaics create a magnificent central part of the building.
